Gurgaon: Days ahead of the proposed Brajmandal Jalabhishek Yatra in Nuh, a lawyer has been booked for writing a social media post that threatened to foment communal tension.

Tahir Devla of Deola was booked on a complaint by constable Manoj Kumar at Nuh Cybercrime police station on Sunday. His Facebook post, Kumar alleged, was aimed at “spreading hostility, hurting religious sentments, inciting the public, and disrupting the jalabhishek yatra”. A case was registered against Devla under sections 192 (provocation with intent of causing riots), 196(1) (violence by unlawful assembly), 352 (intentional insult to breach public peace), 299 (act to outrage religious feelings) and 353(1) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the BNS.

Hindu outfits have promised to bring out the annual yatra on July 22, causing law and order concern in the district. Violence had erupted during last year’s yatra on July 31, triggering riots across several south Haryana districts and claiming seven lives, including those of two homeguards. Around 90 people were injured in the clashes. Police or the district administration hasn’t given any permission for the reli gious procession so far. But

Social media accounts are under police watch again for any incendiary post. A senior police officer in Nuh urged people not to pay attention to rumours and instead use social media for promoting communal harmony.

“Posts should be uploaded to promote cooperation, brotherhood, and harmony. We have urged people against putting up any provocative content on social media. If they come across one, they should report it at the nearest police station or dial 112,” he added. During last year’s yatra, participants were pelted with stones, which sparked the violence. In the run up to the procession, a series of provocative posts had led to tension between two communities. In the aftermath of the clashes, 11 FIRs were registe red in Nuh for social media posts that threatened to incite tension.
