Hearing the plea, the HC had on June 3 sought a report from the trial court regarding the case. When the matter came up for hearing on July 18, the HC was informed that the occurrence pertains to 1992, but the trial commenced only after 2021 as prior to this it was stayed on an apex court order.
The CBI had registered the case after one Amrik Kaur had approached the Supreme Court in the 90s over the disappearance of her husband Amrik Singh. The criminal proceedings against two other accused Jaswant Singh and Surinder Singh had been abated on July 21, 2016.
