PGI contract workers union for probe in recruitment of 15 clerks.
CHANDIGARH: Joint Action Committee (JAC) of PGI Contract workers union is demanding a probe of recruitment of 15 Lower Division Clerks (LDC) on contract labour system on ‘fixed duty’ and allegedly ignoring already working relievers with experience.
In a written complaint submitted with Central Vigilance Commission, JAC sought probe into this.
At PGIMER, Chandigarh, and its Sangrur Satellite Centre, contract workers also known as “relievers” have been performing duties for years. The usual policy is to transition such “relievers” into permanent or “fixed duty” positions when new posts are created or current employees retire or pass away. According to JAC, there are 22 LDCs who have been working as “relievers” since 2016. Despite their seniority and long service, they have been overlooked. Instead, in July 2024, 10 new LDCs were directly appointed to “Fixed Duty” positions. PGI spokesperson said, “The allegations put forth by JAC in their representation dated November 18, are entirely ungrounded and appear to be a premeditated and calculated attempt to malign reputation of PGIMER and its administration.”
