Caterer told to refund FIL over Covid-hit wedding.

Mohali: The district consumer disputes redressal commission, SAS Nagar (Mohali), has directed a local caterer to refund Rs 1 lakh to a Mohali resident after failing to return the advance payment for a wedding event that was cancelled due to the Covid lockdown in 2020.

Mohali, had booked catering services for his son’s wedding, scheduled for April 26, 2020, but the event was cancelled following the wide lockdown.

According to the compla int, Sharma had paid Rs 1 lakh in advance to Seasons Craft Catering, owned by nardhan Prashad, based in Phase 8B, Mohali.

Despite repeated requests, police complaints, and a legal notice, the caterer allegedly failed to refund the amount.

While the complaint aga-inst Prashad personally was not admitted, Seasons Craft Catering was proceeded against ex parte after failing to respond to notices issued by the commission.

He then approached the consumer redressal forum of unfair trade practice,” the order stated.

The commission directed Seasons Craft Catering to refund the full amount of Rs 1,00,000 along with interest at 9% per annum from the date of payment (March 12, 2020).

If the amount is not paid within 30 days from the receipt of the order, the interest rate will increase to 12% per annum until actual refund. Additionally, the commission awarded a lump sum of Rs 40,000 towards mental agony and litigation costs.
