India has seen tremendous rise in cases of Medical Negligence by Doctors, Medical Institutions and hospitals in the past few years owing to rise of commerce in the Medical Sector.
Various private players backed by huge funds have entered the market and given boom to the Medical Sector in the country.
But on the other hand, due to lack of regulation and SOP’s (standard operating procedures) , patients are suffering on account of Medical Negligence which some times have even lead to the death of Individual.
Government and Courts cannot allow doctors, hospital and medical institutions to play with the lives of patients anymore.
Thus , consumer courts of the country are aggressive enough to book the culprits , move them to jail and financially compensate them equitably seeing the damage done to their bodies medically.
Here are few instances of Medical Negligence:
1 Sacred Heart Hospital Maqsudan Road, Jalandhar , says migration of stents happens in 5-10% of the cases which was rejected by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. Court held that stents exacerbated patient’s condition.

2 Even the Insurance companies like HDFC Ergo General Insurance Co. Ltd denied mediclaim to the consumer and hence penalised by the court.

3 A quack doctor selling medicines for having a baby boy is also booked under PNDT Act by the police .

4 Child Mediclaim refused by Max Bupa Health insurance company on the ground that the disease polyps is not covered under the insurance which the court refused and court penalised the insurance company.

In short one must be real careful and diligent in choosing a hospital and team of doctors further to ensure a successful medical procedure.
