Forum Tells Bank To Pay Up Rs.2K Relief To Sector 39 Man
Banks like SBI are no special when it comes to deficiency in services for which consumers in Chandigarh Panchkula Mohali can prefer consumer complaint in District Consumer Forum (< 20 laks) or State Consumer Commission (<1 crore ) considering the amount of money involved.
Since SBI (State Bank of India) is the largest bank of India, it also tops the list of consumer complaints filed against it and also there can be instances where bank can be at fault and for quick redressal of their grievances consumer courts only remain the option as Bank officers may at times tend to ignore genuine grievances of the customers involved.
Here we just had the case. Let’s see the facts:
Amardeep Singh residing in Sector 39B in Chandigarh moved to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum to file a case against a branch of bank in Sector 21C. He stated in front of the court that he had availed a housing loan of Rs.48 Lakh in May 2014, and was regular in payment of the instalments without any default. In December 2018, the bank had added Rs.8,850 in the loan account without his knowledge and consent.
When he inquired about the amount, he was informed that the said amount was the lien marking charges on his property. He then approached the manager to inquire about the charges and question why the bank had not imposed the charges at the time of sanctioning the loan, the manager answered that there were no lien marking fee prescribed by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) at the time. After this the complainant moved to the forum.
The bank argued that the bank had deducted Rs. 8,850 from the loan account on December 21st, 2018 from the loan sanctioned in April 28th 2014. These charges were deducted as processing charges for obtaining the permission to mortgage or lien as according to the policy of the CHB. Therefore the complainant had no right to agitate the amount.
The forum however allowed the complain and ordered the bank to credit Rs. 8,850 to the complainant’s loan account and to pay a compensation of Rs. 2,500 on account of mental agony, harassment and litigation expenses.
Though all the banks these days have consumer helpline and helpdesk numbers but at times where the bank is arrogant enough to ignore the problem and deny to accept the same, then consumer courts can bring quick relief.
Few instances where SBI (State Bank of India) has faced the ire of consumer courts are listed below:
1 Failure to identify fraudster who duped Chandigarh man of ₹50,000 costs SBI dear.
2 You can also file complaint in Banking Ombudsman (BO) as per RBI guidelines.
3 You can also file complaint on the RBI Website.
4 When their YONO app was temporary down.
5 Complaint by pregnant women for deficiency against SBI.
