Man Fakes Divorce to marry NRI, all for green card in US

                Greed caused a person to manufacture documents that only the government has the right to issue just to leave India after marrying a NRI who has fallen prey to the fraudster. Indian authorities were notified and further inquiries revealed that the previous wife was a co-conspirator. The fraudster had no intention to keep the US marriage sacred since his uncle was the mastermind who developed the deception.

                A NRI woman (Devinder Kaur) was approached by Amarjit Singh Sandhu, who introduced the Devinder Kaur to his nephew Navdeep Singh Kohar for the proposal of marriage. Navdeep was previously married to Manjinder Kaur but not divorced and still followed through with the deceiving proposal arranged by his uncle in the US. After stepping foot in the US, Navdeep eventually left his wife and started residing with his Uncle; which caused Devinder later realised she was used for money and a green card. The Ludhiana police found out that Navdeep produced fake documents to prove his divorce, Navdeep’s father had no knowledge of the divorce. Police state Manjinder Kaur colluded in the deception with Navdeep to procure a green card and invite Manjinder later on.

                Several violations occurred: Section 420 (cheating), 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or e-record), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Penal Code.

                Greed brings out the worst in a person, even when the intention for prospering in genuine; but using and hurting people is never allowed. Manjinder left in a disastrous storm, her arrest will undoubtedly draw punishment. Navdeep and Amarjit are yet to be charged for lying to the USA for securing a green card; prison time in USA can occur before India’s punishment.

                The victim of the crime has the power to help the Ludhiana police by informing the US authorities of Navdeep’s illegal acquirement of his Green Card and the involvement of Amarjit. She can expedite the deportation process of Navdeep after informing the US police and immigration; the case will remain open until the criminals step foot on Indian soil.
