No sympathy can be shown to drug peddlers Said by HC
Dismissing a bail plea of an accused from Amritsar, the HC bench of Justice HS Madaan observed that drug trafficking in the region is rising at an alarming rate, which has ruined lives of young men and women. The Punjab and Haryana high court said that persons accused of peddling drugs need to be dealt with firmly and no sympathy can be shown to them lest that should prove to be counter-productive and result in increased drug trafficking.

INTRODUCTION – Drug trafficking is a very serious offence, Drug trafficking is selling, transporting or importing illegal drugs. FACTS
The HC dismissed a bail plea of an accused from Amritsar.
Accused Munish Kumar had sought bail. He was re-arrested in October 2018, after report forensic science report stated that recovery made from him was an intoxicant. He is accused of peddling drugs, a case was reported in September 2015 under Islamabad police station in district, and he was arrested.

Kumar was found in possession of 105gm intoxicating powder. Police had opposed bail stating that he was peddling drugs and is himself an addict. A challan has been filed against him and trial is underway.

The punishment for drug trafficking is very wide and it totally depends on several factors including the type and quantity of drugs involved, geographic area of distribution, and whether children were targeted.

For instance, marijuana is listed as a “Schedule I controlled substance,” cocaine is listed under Schedule II, anabolic steroids under Schedule III, under the federal Controlled Substances Act. The Act lists the drugs that fall under each Schedule.
Schedule I means the drug is highly addictive, has no accepted medical use, and is not safe must be used under medical supervision.
- Schedule II means the drug is highly addictive, has medical uses, and may lead to severe drug
- Schedule III means the drug has a low potential for abuse, and has accepted medical uses, and moderate risk of
- Schedule IV and V both have low potential for drug abuse, have accepted medical uses, and have limited potential for
Drug trafficking is one of the most serious offences as drug trafficking is illegal in India and still many people do so we can’t do anything about that .we can just make strict laws and set a example that if you do so (drug trafficking) you want be left and you will get punished. The HC decisions herein for dismissing the plea were fair enough I feel that. (Who does wrong need to pay for it).
As for now , The Punjab and Haryana high court said that persons accused of peddling drugs need to be dealt with firmly and no sympathy can be shown to them lest that should prove to be counter-productive and result in increased drug trafficking.
