Facts of the case:
In an online fraud a person from Panchkula district has lost rupees 2 lakh after seeking help to complete and online payment from a pay customer care number of Google pay. Dilbagh Singh of Bhagwanpur village has stated that he was making a payment of rupees 3,020 through the app to his worker. But the amount was deducted from his bank account and was not credited to his worker’s account. So he searched for the Google pay customer care number on Google and dialled the one which was appearing at the top. He requested the other person at the other end who introduced himself as a Google pay representative. The complainant was asked to download any desk application and provide his card details. Then the Google pay representative asked for the OTP and ask him not to use Google pay for at least 2 hours since is complaint resolution is under process . The victim did as he was said to do and later realise that rupees 2 lakh has been withdrawn from his bank account and when he dialled the same number again he found the phone switched off.

So the complainant approach the police authorities who register complaint under section 420 of IPC and initiated the investigation into the case.

Incidentally, more than 6 persons have been duped in online fraud this year till now in Panchkula.
- On January 30 women fall into the trap of fraudsters and was duped for rupees 55000 after receipt of a call to take an insurance policy .
- On January 27 two incidents take place in one of which a sepoy working with Indian army was duped of rupees 1.85 by a caller claiming to be speaking from an airline from which he had booked a ticket. In the second incident an unidentified person took out rupees 49500 from the bank account of a cab driver after taking his bank details.

- On January 19 a resident of Chandigarh having his office in Panchkula was duped of rupees 80000 after he died a number showing in the top search results of Google as the customer care number of a company he was looking for.

Cyber cell officials said no one should share his bank details and although not to trust the Google search result as those could be fake. And only the official channel should be used in such cases to make a complaint.
