STEER SEXUAL ABUSE PROBE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: STUDENT TO GMCH HEAD

A third-year college student who has accused an OT Technician of molesting her at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was unsatisfied with the manner the committee against the sexual harassment questioned her and has written to the director principle to “steer the inquiry in the right direction”

In her police complaint the student mentioned that on June 27 when she had gone to the store room to bring some medicines the technician clasped her from behind and started to molest her. She has already registered an FIR against the accused.

The student complained of the fact that the committee was not aware of the fact whether she was a student or a doctor. She also complained that the committee was more interested in knowing about the legal inquiry taken up by her rather than proceeding with the sexual harassment probe as the questioned her about whether the FIR has been lodged or not or whether she has visited the police station again.

Dr. Jasbinder Kaur, the director principle did not comment on the complaint against the sexual harassment internal committee but she did inform that the accused has been suspended. To express their dissatisfaction of not arresting the accused the interns and resident doctors of GMCH have decided to stage a protest against the Chandigarh police.
