WITNESS WHO LOST HIS SECURITY COVER APPROACHES HIGH COURT
Balwinder Singh, an automobile painter by profession, was the first one to come forward and to provide crucial clue about the identity of assassins of Beant Singh former Punjab Chief Minister who was killed in a bomb blast on August 31, 1995. Balwinder came forward about the persons involved in assassination, as the vehicle used in crime was repainted by him.
Balwinder Singh a prime witness in assassination case of former Punjab CM Beant Singh, filed a petition before Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging withdrawal of security cover.
Balwinder Singh was provided a security cover after a review in February, 2011.It comprised three personnel from Chandigarh police and two from Punjab police along with escort of PCR motorcycle and round the clock PCR patrolling at his house in Nayagaon. However, in May, after he remained under quarantine for 14 days due to COVID-19, security cover was withdrawn by Chandigarh police keeping onus on Punjab police alone. He filed a petition before Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging withdrawal of security cover. The Punjab and Haryana High Court put the Chandigarh police on notice on petitioner’s plea. Justice Ram Mohan Singh of Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought a response by July 28.
