SUDHIR SURI CHASED DOWN IN INDORE IN AN OBJECTIONABLE VIDEO CASE BY PUNJAB POLICE             

                After a nearly 1300km chase that ended in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab Police arrested self- proclaim chief of Shiv Sena (Taksali) Sudhir Suri over an objectionable video allegedly denigrating women and inciting enmity between different groups.

                On July 8, after first video went viral and was heavily criticized both in India and abroad, Sudhir Suri was booked under Sections 153-A, 354 A, and 509 of IPC and 67 of IT act, which are non-bailable sections for inciting enmity at Jandiala Police Station of the Amritsar rural district. The state government had deployed 15 cops, eight gunmen and a police pilot Gypsy in Sudhir Suir’s security, even after that Suri escaped Amritsar two days after case registered against him.

“Before fleeing, Suri had asked his security personnel to leave him as he was scheduled to go out of the state,”said a police official, who is a part of two teams which arrested him.

                Senior superintendent of police (SSP-rural) Vikram Jeet Duggal said: “Suri might have dodged his security men before escaping. However, it is a part of the investigation. We will also question his security personnel.”

                Disclosing that operation was successfully conducted in coordination with Madhya Pradesh Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta said that he personally spoke to his Madhya Pradesh counterpart at the time of dispatching two police teams to Indore. These two police teams comprise 11 personnel of Amritsar (Rural) district. Subsequent investigation revealed that fearing arrest, Suri could have fled to Indore.

                DGP also said that manhunt was had been launched for Suri after the release of video with derogatory remarks against women, this video was followed by a Facebook video in which Suri had subsequently claimed that objectionable video was voiceover by some other person using his name. Despite Suri’s denial of any involvement in the objectionable video, DGP said manhunt was ordered againstsuri through Amritsar (Rural) Police. DGP said that he also directed Punjab Bureau of Investigation to get the clip examined through the Forensic Science Laboratory at the earliest.

                Punjab Police is now moving for bail cancellation requests before the judicial courts concerned in cases where Suri has already been granted bail earlier. Suri has been booked in five cases of hate speech.

Section 153-A of IPC:

                Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. Offence committed in place of worship, etc.

Section 354 of IPC: Assault of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty.

Section 509 of IPC: Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
